Now is a great time to get involved in Mozilla’s Mobile effort! We have posted two prototype UI’s for you to play with. The first is for non-touch screen devices; you have to try it out. The look is vanilla for now, but the scrolling, zooming and panning feel like they are going to be awesome.

You can find out more information about it here.
The second ui prototype is all about being able to touch the screen without a stylus.

You can checkout what we have here. There is also a partial reference implementation.
The idea here is that Places are integrated as well as Weave. We would love to hear your ideas and comments. Also, if you have more time, we are holding a weekly Mobile UI meeting on Monday mornings at 10am pt. (details).

Having tried Minimo before, I’m loving this work!
I use my fingers with my PDA way more than my stylus (actually, I barely use it,) so I really hope finger taps work well. I’ll keep a good eye on the UI page. Windows Mobile should be supported in all this, too.

I’m a bit in fear that you will just drop support for Windows Mobile and concentrate only on Maemo…
Thanks.

Mozilla,
There are tons of Blackberry enthusiasts out there. It’s a growing community and that fact can be seen simply by watching the growth in support forums such as Pinstack.com.
Please include support for the BB’s in your planning. Most of us already love and use Firefox on our p-c’s - we a craving a product similar to, and as great as, Firefox for our BB’s.
Sincerely,
John Blackwood

I’ve been waiting for a Mozilla implementation of a mobile browser, and from what I have seen on the screen shots I am disappointed to see that they have gone down the route of following w3c’s 1 web approach. Horizontal scroll, long pages, and huge download sizes will not apease the user. In order for mobile web to improve, people must develop another version, as PC based and Mobile based have totally different user requirements.
Research needs to be taken up on how to identify a mobile edition of a site, and giving the user the choice. Instead of relying on their input of URL and also third party transcode solutions which in my opinion do a very poor job at moment.

WOW…Firefox Mobile where have you been! I have a Sanyo Katana and use my phone for internet all the time. Currently, I am using OperaMini 4.0; but, I would change in a heartbeat to FFox (the BEST browser that my household uses on all 7 of our computers…we would ABSOLUTELY use it on our mobile phones) Don’t forget some simple skins…I LOVE FFox’s skinability! I will definitely be looking for this to be available for my phones (2 Katana’s and one SCP3200 by Sanyo…possibly a Katana DLX in the future)…keep up the FFox work and thank you for the best browser on the net!
